Stop the Waste
Taxpayers will soon be paying for the luxury of a $20 MILLION underground bunker if the Tennessee Building Commission has its way. State Architect Mike Fitts claims that the current entertainment facilities are inadequate, yet our capital city already includes venues specifically for such purposes.
But why would the Governor need an entertainment complex more than five times greater than that in the White House? A two-story, underground, 20,000 square foot entertainment bunker?
Keep abreast of the latest news here.
Some of the issues:
- TAX PAYERS WILL BE PAYING heavily.
- Originally projected $3.84 million in tax dollars - now much higher.
- $12.8 million of Tax Payer’s money is now on the hook to cover Mansion renovations.
- The bunker will be underground construction, and thus there is no certainty on final costs.
- To date, ONLY tax payer money been spent to fill the $7 million increase in the projected cost of the overall mansion renovations
- The State says the mansion is inadequate to host major events. Really?
- What major event would we want to host that would accommodate up to 2,000 people? And why do they feel allowing traffic of that magnitude in a residential area is fair?
- The Building was originally to be 13,000 square feet, now projecting an additional 7,000 square feet (with 3,000 of that set aside for dining)…and TWO STORIES!
- Why does the Governor of TN need a bigger entertainment complex than the President of the United States?
- What about the Governors who will come after Bredesen?

The proposed ballroom will be more than five times larger.
